2017 Boao Forum for Asia Development Summit (Macau) host Press Conference

The 2017 Boao Forum for Asia Development Summit (Macau), jointly organized by Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), Macau Youth Federation (MYF) and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), is slated to be held at the conference hall on the fourth floor of Sands Cotai Central and in Macau University of Science and Technology on November 5-6, 2017. The summit, under the theme of “Smart city construction and the development of Asian region”, focuses on the future development of Asia from the perspective of the youth.

On October 27, MYF and MUST introduced the upcoming summit, the guests and the speakers and so on at the press conference held at MUST. The conference was attended by LIU Liang, co-chair of the Preparatory Committee and president of MUST; MO Zhiwei, co-chair of the Preparatory Committee and president of MYF; and CHEN Xiuchai, deputy co-chair of the Preparatory Committee and deputy president of MYF. The conference was chaired by LIAO Qicheng, director of the Preparatory Committee and vice president of MYF.

LIU Liang said that the summit sets up three sessions – “Smart City and the Development of Asia”, “Young Talent and the Future of Asia” and “The Belt and Road and the Specialized Financial Services”. These issues are what Macau SAR is most concerned about. It is expected that the event will become a high-profile international summit, and play a positive role in the development of Macau and even Asia as a whole.

MO Zhiwei said that the preparatory committee had invited the heads of government bodies, industry representatives and experts and scholars from Macau, mainland China, as well as the United States, Britain, Australia and other countries to speak at the summit.The “Youth Talent and the Future of Asia” session will be attended by Marty Mei, Press Secretary to Premier, State Government of Victoria Australia; Steve OKUN, Senior Advisor, McLarty Associates; SOU Chio Fai, General Secretary, Talents Development Committee, Macao Special Administrative Region Government; and YANG Fan, Founding Partner of FINUP & CEO of IQIANJI.

The “Smart City and the Development of Asia” session will be attended by DONG Mingzhu, Chairperson of the Board of Gree; John RUTLEDGE, Founder and Chairman of Rutledge Capital; LIU Binxing, the Director of Greater China of Alibaba Cloud; ZHOU Jiangong, Chief Executive Officer, China Business Network Co., Ltd.; and LI Ying, Counselor, Department of Information Technology Application and Software Services, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, People’s Republic of China.

“The Belt and Road and the Specialized Financial Services” session will be attended by Kenneth FENG, Vice President of MGM China Holdings Limited; Robert KOEPP, Network Director, Economist Corporate Network; LI Peng, Chairman of the Board, China Huarong Financial Leasing Co., Ltd.; SONG Yunsong, Director, CPD Fund Management Company; and Wilson VONG, Executive Director, the Monetary Authority of Macao.

This is the second development summit held by BFA in Macau. The summit is supported and valued by the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau Special Administrative Region, and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macau Special Administrative Region.

The first Boao Forum for Asia Development Summit (Macau) under the theme of “Knowledge Interconnection: The Innovative Thoughts of Asian Development” was held in Macau on May 18, 2015. Over 800 representatives from the political, business, academia, culture and tourism sectors in countries and regions such as Singapore, Indonesia, Israel, the United Kingdom, mainland China, and Macau gathered here and held in-depth discussions on economy, tourism, cultural industries and sustainable development, with a view to providing new ideas for the common development of Macau and Asia as a whole.
