BFA Vice Chairman Zhou Xiaochuan meets with Singapore Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong

On July 8, Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) met with Goh Chok Tong, member of the BFA Council of Advisors and Singapore Emeritus Senior Minister.

Mr. Zhou expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Goh for his care and support for the work of BFA over the years, and briefed him on the work plan and the activities held by BFA so far this year. He hoped that Mr. Goh and other directors and advisors could continue to participate and support the events of BFA.

Mr. Goh expressed his admiration for BFA's achievements under the leadership of the new Board of Directors and hoped that BFA would have the opportunity to visit Singapore again to hold a conference on issues of mutual interest, such as finance, digital economy and artificial intelligence.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, such as Sino-US trade friction, globalization, reform of state-owned enterprises and strengthening China-Singapore cooperation. Mr. Goh said that resolving the issue of trade friction between China and the United States is not only very important for both countries, but will have a significant impact on the development of the entire region and the world economy. He appreciated China's adherence to reform and opening-up, its active promotion of globalization and its objection to trade protectionism. He admired China’s efforts to achieve these goals.

Both sides said they looked forward to a wonderful discussion on relevant issues of common concern at next year's Boao Annual Meeting, which would make BFA a terrific platform for insightful people to express their views and reach a consensus.

Mr Sam Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore Mr Stanley Loh, Ambassador of Singapore to the People’s Republic of China, attended the meeting.

Mr. Goh served as a member of BFA's Board of Directors from 2010-2018. He has been a member of BFA’s Council of Advisors since 2018.
