Secretary General Li Baodong Meets with Treasurer of Western Australia

On July 30, 2019, Secretary General Li Baodong met with Mr. Ben Wyatt, Treasurer and Minister for Finance of Western Australia, at the BFA Secretariat.

Li welcomed Wyatt’s visit and commended various communities of Western Australia for their long-term support to the development of BFA. Proposed by senior politicians including Mr. Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia, the Boao Forum for Asia was initiated by 29 Asia-Pacific countries. As a communication platform that belongs to all countries in Asia, BFA has consistently pursued its mission of promoting regional economic integration. Now, it is also exploring areas such as technological innovation, health, culture, education and media. Western Australia is welcome to participate in BFA Annual Conference 2020.

Li noted that as economic globalization and free trade are facing severe challenges, BFA stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries such as Australia to jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system based on the WTO rules, and promote international cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. In addition, the Forum wishes to build a platform for enterprises of China, Australia and other countries to communicate and cooperate with each other in pursuit of mutual benefits.

Wyatt said that Western Australia is proud of its long-term close cooperation with BFA, a leading global economic forum. The state’s economy has been benefitting from the strong growth momentum of China and the whole Asia. Western Australia desires to deepen economic and trade cooperation with China and other countries in the region by further leveraging the platform of BFA.
