Globalization & Free Trade: The Asian Perspectives--Agenda finalized for Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2017

On January 9, 2017, the Secretariat of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held a press conference in Beijing to brief journalists on the preparations for the BFA Annual Conference 2017 and answered their questions.

Exploring Opportunity and Challenge in Change

On January 9, 2017, the BFA held its first member event around the theme of “Opportunity and Challenge in Change: the World Economy in 2017”, at the China World Summit Wing in Beijing. Prof. David Daokui Li, Dean of Schwarzman College and Director of the Center for China in the World Economy, Tsinghua University, attended the event as a keynote speaker, who shared his insightful observations regarding issues such as the uncertainties and prospects of the world economy, their impact on the Chinese economy as well as China’s economic priorities in 2017.

At the invitation of the HKTDC, BFA Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong attended the opening ceremony and shared his insights at the Panel Discussion on Prospects for ASEAN held on the afternoon of the same day.

IMF keeps global growth forecast for 2017 unchanged at 3.4%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday kept its forecast for global economic growth for 2017 and 2018 unchanged at 3.4 percent and 3.6 percent respectively, but warned of uncertainties.

ILO: Global unemployment is expected to rise by 3.4 million in 2017

Global unemployment levels and rates are expected to remain high in the short term, as the global labour force continues to grow. In particular, the global unemployment rate is expected to rise modestly in 2017, to 5.8 per cent (from 5.7 per cent in 2016) – representing 3.4 million more unemployed people globally (bringing total unemployment to just over 201 million in 2017).

Bank of China officially opens branch in Serbia

Bank of China opened its branch in Serbia on Saturday, becoming the first Chinese bank starting operation in the country. The official opening ceremony took place at Palace of Serbia, with presence of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Chairman of Bank of China Tian Guoli, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Manchang and members of the Serbian government.

SANY signs major housing contracts with Malaysia

A corporate delegation led by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi visited SANY Headquarters in Beijing on January 11. During the visit, SANY signed two contracts with Malaysian enterprises to build around 50,000 houses in the local market, with a total investment exceeding 1.5 billion USD (10 billion RMB).

EFC China signs strategic partnership agreement with China Communications Construction in the presence of Ye Jianming

On the afternoon of December 29, 2016, CEFC China signed a strategic partnership agreement with China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) at CCCC’s headquarters in Beijing.
