Origin:Boao Forum for Asia      Time:2019-05-27 12:50:38    Views:58

Mr. Bob Hawke, one of the founders of the Boao Forum for Asia and former Prime Minister of Australia, passed away at the age of 89 at his home in Sidney on May 16 of this year. On behalf of the BFA, Secretary General Li Baodong sent a message of condolences to Mrs. Hawke to express deep sorrow at the loss of Mr. Hawke and extend condolences to his family members and relatives.

Secretary General Li Baodong acknowledged the staunchest support and tremendous contribution Mr. Hawke had given to the BFA since its establishment in 2001, as well as his strategic vision and wisdom had helped shape what the BFA is today. His remarkable spirit as well as kind and generous nature will be greatly missed and forever be remembered by the international community, and particularly by BFA staff.

Proposed in 1998 by Mr. Hawke together with Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, and Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan, and with the strong support of its host country, China, the BFA was officially inaugurated on February 27, 2001. Mr. Hawke had long been serving on the BFA Board of Directors and Council of Advisors. During the BFA Annual Conference 2018, the new Board of Directors honored Mr. Hawke an Honorary Member.
