Closing Remarks by Amb.ZHOU Wenzhong at Seattle Conference
Origin:Boao Forum for Asia      Time:2014-09-07 03:03:43    Views:394474

Our conference will soon draw to its close. I think I can speak for all of you that it has been a success thanks to the efforts of all the delegates and speakers. I am glad that our discussion here touched upon almost all the important global issues we face, such as energy, climate changes, trade and investment liberalization, new model of major countries relations, etc. And we all agree that it is essential for countries regardless of their political and economic systems to turn their common interests on all those issues into concrete and coordinated joint actions for the well-being of mankind.

On other thing worth mentioning is I think our conference has focused on the importance of enhancing innovation spirit in tackling the challenges we face. Some speakers called for creating innovation mechanism across our respective society and the world; others called for innovation in public policies on environment protection, urban development and energy efficiency.

I am pleased also because our conference has come up with some meaningful proposals. Many participants said that reducing carbon and lifting living standards are things we all need. To keep them in balance, we need to develop a comprehensive package of measures and to encourage transnational cooperation. In this regard, we have heard proposals and ideas about smart cities and zero-carbon buildings. In the session of rebuilding trans-Pacific cooperative relationship, panelists had a constructive exchange of ideas on establishing an Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to improve connectivity in our region. I am sure that discussions we have had will open broad vistas for future cooperation among countries in the region.

As my time will soon be up, I could only quote few of the agreed points. I hope you will take what you have learnt here back and share them with your community, so that they will be one day adopted or accepted by governments here, there and everywhere.

Finally, please allow me to express on behalf of the Boao Forum to thank all local partners, to thank all the delegates and speakers and to thank the Governor, the Mayor and all those who have helped us to make this conference happen and be a success.
