On January 6, 2016, Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), briefed on preparations for the coming Annual Conference 2016 at a press conference this afternoon at China World Summit Wingin Beijing.

On January 6, 2016, the BFA Secretariat held its new year's inaugural members event titled “The Way Forward—China's Economy in 2016” at the China World Summit Wing in Beijing, where participants explored China's new economic landscape—an issue capturing worldwide attention.

On January 6, 2016, the BFA hosted New Year Reception at Beijing China Summit Wing to thank those who have offered continuous support to the development of BFA. 

On February 18, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong chaired the news briefing for some foreign envoys stationed in China and  introduced the preparations and arrangements of the upcoming BFA Annual Conference2016.

From March 22 through 25, 2016, the BFA Annual Conference 2016 themed “Asia's New Future: New Dynamics, New Vision” was held in Boao, China. 2,100 representatives from 62 countries and regions participated in the Conference, including 13 Chinese and overseas government leaders, 94 principals of international organizations and ministerial officials, 1,122 enterprise representatives, including senior executives from 200 Fortune Global 500 companies. During the Annual Conference, representatives, Chinese and overseas leaders shared their expectation of Asia's future and the new vision of Asia.

From May 24 to 26, 2016, BFA Energy, Resources and Sustainable Development Conference and AEF Silk Road Countries Forum with the theme of “One Belt and One Road Integrated with the Eurasian Economic Union” was held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The event was co-sponsored by the BFA and the AEF (Astana Economic Forum). About 300 Government officials, entrepreneurs and scholars from countries along the “One Belt and One Road” zone and member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union attended the conference, during which Asian nations are called for to speed up building energy partnership.

On Jun 13, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhou met at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) secretariat with Her Excellency the Honorable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria. The two sides exchanged views on the proposed BFA Melbourne Conference.

On June 25, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met by appointment with the delegation of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

On July 1, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met with Tan Sri Dr. Michael Yeoh, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI).

On 4-5 July, 2016, Boao Forum for Asia Financial Cooperation Conference, co-organized by the BFA and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The theme of the Conference is “Stimulating Growth in the Real Economy: the Role of Finance”. Around 250 delegates from financial regulatory agencies, international organizations, financial sectors, global companies and academic institutions participated in the event. The conference pointed out that world financial problem should be solved through the reform of the global financial architecture and Asia countries should strengthen financial cooperation to meet the needs for infrastructure construction financing and to cope with the global risks and challenges.

On July 15, BFA held its 3rd members and partners activity in 2016—“Picasso Walks into China—A Dialogue with the Greatest Artists” Tour, which was supported by the Riverside Group, a partner of BFA. About 50 representatives of the BFA members and partners joined the event.

On July 20, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met with the delegation led by Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

On August 24, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong gave an interview to International Herald Leader on the upcoming G20 Hangzhou Summit.

On September 2, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong sent a letter of condolence over death of H. E. Islam Karimov, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Uzbekistanian Ambassador to China.

On September 20, 2016, Chinese Chief Representative and Vice Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Zeng Peiyan met in Beijing with Daniele Andrews, Governor of the State of Vitoria, Australia.

On the afternoon of October 14 2016, Mr. SUN Zhengcai, member of CPC Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Chongqing municipal party secretary met in Chongqing with Board members of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) who attended the BFA Strategic Planning Workshop & the Board of Directors Working Meeting, including former Japanese Prime Minister and BFA Chairman Mr. Yasuo FUKUDA, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Chinese State Council and Vice Chairman Mr. ZENG Peiyan, BFA Secretary General Mr. ZHOU Wenzhong, Singapore , Singapore Emeritus Senior Minister Mr. GOH Chok Tong and Executive Vice Governor of Hainan Province Mr. MAO Chaofeng.

On October 15, 2016, BFA held Strategic Planning Workshop & Board of Directors Working Meeting in China with about 100 people's attendance. The Board of Directors Working Meeting had in-depth analysis of current world and regional economic situation, discussed the time, theme and key issues for the BFA Annual Conference 2017 and put forward a preliminary program.

On October 27, BFA's 4th members and partners activity in 2016, a tour of Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City, was held in Yuhang District, Hangzhou. BFA members and partners visited the exhibition halls of the city planning and Dream Village, as well as innovative hi-tech companies including The 7th Space Incubator and Zero Zero Robotics.

On October 28, 2016, the BFA—Global E-Commerce Leaders Summit 2016 was held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

On November 19, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong attended "US President Election & Sino-US Relations Round Table Seminar", which was jointly held by Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and University of Macau (UM) in Beijing, and delivered a keynote speech.

On November 22-23, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong attended by invitation the 3rd meeting of China-Australia High Level Dialogue, co-sponsored by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia,at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing.

From December 7 to 8, 2016, Boao Forum for Asia and the Government of Victoria, Australia, co-organized in Melbourne a conference titled “The Future of Globalization”. It convened more than 300 political, business and academic leaders from a dozen Asian countries and emerging economies to collectively explore the prospects and new drivers of globalization. The conference called for the current global economic governance institutions to play a greater role in guiding, supervising and correcting in the process of enhancing globalization.

On December 28, 2016, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met at the BFA Secretariat with Dr. Irene Giner-Reichl, the Austrian Ambassador to China.
