On January 4, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met with Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative  in China.

On January 9, 2017,BFA held a press conference in Beijing to brief journalists on the preparations for the BFA Annual Conference 2017 and answered their questions.

On January 9, 2017, BFA held its first member event around the theme of “Opportunity and Challenge in Change: the World Economy in 2017”. Prof. David Daokui LI, Dean of Schwarzman College and Director of the Center for China in the World Economy, Tsinghua University, attended the event as a keynote speaker.

On January 9, 2017, BFA hosted New Year Reception at Beijing China Summit Wing to thank those who have offered continuous support to the development of BFA.

On January 13, 2017, BFA, the Macao Youth Federation and Macau University of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement to activate preparations for the 2017 Boao Asia Development Forum to be held in November in Macau.

On January 16, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong attended the 10th Asian Financial Forum at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center at the invitation of the HKTDC and shared his insights at the Panel Discussion on Prospects for ASEAN.

On March 20, 2017, Spokesperson HUA Chunying said at the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Regular Press Conference that "Upon invitation, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of the State Council will attend the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2017 in Boao, Hainan and deliver a keynote speech on March 25."

From March 23 through 26, 2017,Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2017 themed "Globalization & Free Trade: the Asian Perspectives” was held in Boao, China. Chinese President XI Jinping sent a congratulatory message to the Conference. Chinese Vice Premier ZHANG Gaoli attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech themed as “Work Together to Advance Economic Globalization and Create a Better Future for Asia and the World”. President of Madagascar Hery Rajaonarimampianina, President of the Federated States of Micronesia Peter Christian, Prime Minister of Nepal Prachanda, Speaker of Wolesi Jirga of the National Assembly of Afghanistan Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, and Vice President of Myanmar Myint Swe attended and addressed the opening ceremony. 1823 representatives from 48 countries and regions participated in the Conference. On March 26, BFA released Boao Forum for Asia Declaration on Economic Globalization.

On April 18, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met at the BFA Secretariat with the delegation from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), which included Party Secretary Jiang Qingzhe, President Wang Jiaqiong and Vice President Zhao Zhongxiu.

On April 19, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong met with A. Carsten Damsgaard, the Danish Ambassador to China, and Morten Jespersen, the Under-Secretary for Global Development and Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

On May 3, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong gave a lecture at Jinjiang College, Sichuan University, during which he shared his insights on major issues in international affairs and walked participants through China's diplomatic accomplishments and priorities in 2017.

On May 4, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong gave a lecture on the subject of “International Affairs and China’s Diplomacy” at Chengdu University of Technology.

On May 22, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong was invited to participate in the release of a think tank report titled “Beyond Differences: Exploring a New Pathway to a Win-Win Partnership” in Beijing as well as a panel discussion on Sino-US relations.

On May 24, 2017, BFA held its 2nd member and partner activity at Great Wall Chateau Sungod in Huailai County, Hebei Province with the support of COFCO.

From June 1 to 2, 2017, at the invitation of the Tianjin Municipal Government, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong went to Tianjin for a two-day visit.

On June 13, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong was invited to attend and address the inaugural ceremony of the Institute of International and Regional Studies of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing.

On June 15, 2017, Boao Forum for Asia One Belt One Road—the New Driver of Global Trade Conference was held in the Palace of Independence, Astana, Kazakhstan. Co-organized by the BFA and the Astana Economic Forum, the conference, which brought together nearly 200 government officials, economists and business leaders from China, Russia and Central Asian countries, was part of the 10th Astana Economic Forum themed with “New Energy-New Economy”.

From June 20 to 21, 2017, Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong was invited to attend the 9th US-China CEO and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue co-organized by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) and the US Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.

On July 11, 2017, themed as “Asian Regional Cooperation: New Challenges, New Approach”, the Boao Forum for Asia Bangkok Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand. Aimed at accelerating the process of economic integration in Asia, the Conference explored new approaches for deepening regional economic cooperation and promoting economic development under the “Belt and Road” initiative with more than 400 delegates from 13 countries and regions, including China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia participating.

On July 28, 2017, BFA organized its 3rd member activity of this year—a visit to Microsoft China Center One (MCCO).

On July 24, 2017, BFA and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) held a high-level dialogue themed with “Innovation and Partnership – An Optimist's Vision for the Future” in Beijing. Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong and BMGF Co-Chairman Melinda Gates gave speeches at the event.

On August 2, 2017, Secretary-General Zhou Wenzhong met with Ms. Pan Hui, Vice Principal of Guangxi University of Finance and Economics and her entourage at the Secretariat of the BFA.

On August 3, 2017, Secretary-General Zhou Wenzhong met with the Delegation of U.S. Congressional Aides, which paid a visit to China as arranged by the Asian Foundation.

On September 14 and 15, 2017, Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) and Foundation Prospective and Innovation of France co-hosted a meeting themed on “‘Belt and Road’ Initiative: Building Synergy with European Policies and Strategies” to study how to dovetail with Junker plan and other development plans of various countries. More than 300 representatives from 19 countries and regions attended the meeting. At the opening ceremony, BFA Vice Chairman Mr. ZENG Peiyan delivered a keynote speech themed on “Create a New Era of Common Development of Asia and Europe in Pursuing the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative”.

On October 9 and 10, 2017, BFA held its Strategic Planning Workshop & Board of Directors Working Meeting in Xi'an, China.

On October 25, 2017, BFA organized its 4th member event within the year—visiting the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). Led by Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong, around 30 representatives of BFA members, partners and media attended this event.

On October 27, 2017, Secretary-General ZHOU Wenzhong attended and delivered a keynote speech at the Workshop on Using PPP Mode to Support the Belt and Road Initiative & Inauguration Ceremony of the Belt and Road PPP Development Research Center held at University of International Business and Economics (UIBE).

On November 2, 2017, BFA and The Y. Elites Association held the Sixth Boao Youth Forum for Asia (Hong Kong) at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Under the theme of “The Future of Globalization and Free Trade—Role of the Youth”, the forum was attended by over 5000 world-renowned experts, scholars, famous entrepreneurs and representatives of the business sector, including Mr. C Y LEUNG, Vice Chairman of The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

On November 5 and 6, 2017, Boao Forum for Asia Development Summit 2017 (Macau), themed as “Smart city construction and Asian regional development”, was jointly organized by BFA, Macau Youth Federation (MYF) and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) The summit attracted over 1600 delegates including Edmund HO Hau Wah, CPPCC Vice Chairman.

On December 4 and 5, 2017, the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) and the Japanese Economic Federation (Keidanren) held  the Third Round of China-Japan CEOs and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue in Tokyo, Japan. Over 80 well-known Chinese and Japanese entrepreneurs attended the dialogue. Secretary General ZHOU Wenzhong was invited to attend the Dialogue and spoke at the “Third Party Market Cooperation” session.
