Hiroaki Nakanishi is the Chairman of Hitachi, a post he has held since April 2014. He was appointed President in 2010, the year when Hitachi marked the 100th anniversary of its founding. Hitachi continues to pursue growth in the global market by focusing on the social innovation business, which is aimed at creating smart social infrastructures based on control and information technologies.

Mr. Nakanishi started his career with the company in April 1970 as an engineer in computer system design at Omika Works in Hitachi City, the home town of Hitachi Group. He has held numerous senior positions, mostly in the field of information and control systems. He has rich experiences in Europe and North America, where he conducted Hitachi’s global business. Before his presidency, he spent five years in California to turn around a hard disk drive company, which is now a part of Western Digital. He was appointed as Chairman of Keidanren, Japan Business Federation on May 2018. He attended the University of Tokyo and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He also earned a Master of Science degree in computer engineering at Stanford University.
