On January 6, 2016, the Secretariat of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) held its new year's inaugural members event titled The Way Forward—China's Economy in 2016 at the China World Summit Wing in Beijing, where participants explored China's new economic landscape—an issue capturing worldwide attention.

2016 marks the first year of China's 13th five-year plan as well as a strategic milestone for China's endeavor to build a moderately prosperous society and advance its economic restructure. Economic trends during the 13th five-year plan period, the last five years of China's first 100-year-goal, will be of critical significance. In his keynote speech, Long Guoqiang, Vice President of the Development Research Center of the State Council as well as a prominent researcher in economic policy, gave an in-depth analysis of China's economy and shared a comprehensive view of China's economic priorities, measures and reform directions for 2016.

Subsequently, He Gang, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Caijing, had a dialogue with Long Guoqiang around the event theme. From a global perspective, they explored the challenges and opportunities of emerging economies, the development of manufacturing, infrastructure construction, finance, investment and other issues. Their interaction was followed by an intense and lively Q&A session.

The event was joined by more than 120 participants representing BFA members and partners from home and abroad.
