---The world economy is analyzed at the BFA’s first member event in 2017
On January 9, 2017, the BFA held its first member event around the theme of “Opportunity and Challenge in Change: the World Economy in 2017”, at the China World Summit Wing in Beijing. Prof. David Daokui Li, Dean of Schwarzman College and Director of the Center for China in the World Economy, Tsinghua University, attended the event as a keynote speaker, who shared his insightful observations regarding issues such as the uncertainties and prospects of the world economy, their impact on the Chinese economy as well as China’s economic priorities in 2017.
Considering the new global trends in 2017, Prof. Li gave an in-depth analysis of opportunities and challenges facing China as a result of new changes in the world economy, particularly after the US presidential election. Based on his study of China’s various economic figures for 2016, he pointed out that China needs to address three priorities in 2017—tackling capital outflows and stabilizing the RMB exchange rate; addressing trade protectionism; and helping the private sector accelerate investment. If these issues are addressed properly, the Chinese economy will likely see progress in stability.
Prof. Li also had a dialogue with Yang Xiyu, Moderator and Executive Vice President of the BFA Research & Training Institute, which was followed by a lively Q&A session regarding issues such as manufacturing, US economic trends and cross-border investment, which are closely watched by member companies.
The event was attended by more than 110 participants from BFA members and partners.
