On December 13, 2014, Boao Forum for Asia Secretary-General Zhou Wenzhong met with visiting former Australian foreign minister Bob Carr. Carr, who is director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at University of Technology, Sydney, which was founded in May, said he would like to help strengthen the mutual understanding between China and Australia in such areas as politics, society and business. He expressed his gratitude for Zhou attending a seminar on China-Australia relationship held by his institute earlier this month and said he hopes to work closer with the Boao Forum for Asia Secretariat.

Zhou said he appreciated the invitation to the seminar from the Australia-China Relations Institute and the warm reception during the visit, and the Boao Forum for Asia Secretariat would like to strengthen cooperation with the institute. Zhou also invited Carr to attend the Boao Forum for Asia 2015 annual conference and meeting activities jointly held with the New South Wales state government in Sydney late next July.

They exchanged views on issues of common concern, including regional economic situation, progress of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific and China-Australia relations.

Carr worked as the premier of the New South Wales state from 1995 to 2005. During his tenure as Australian foreign minister in 2012 and 2013, he accompanied former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard to attend the Boao Forum for Asia 2013 annual conference.
