Secretary General Zhou Wenzhong Attends BFA-Global E-Commerce Leaders Summit 2016

On October 28, 2016, the BFA—Global E-Commerce Leaders Summit 2016 was held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

Zhou pointed out that the summit, since its creation three years ago, has witnessed the rise of Hangzhou as an international E-commerce hub as well as the rapid advancement of E-commerce worldwide, particularly in China. Currently, business models to which traditional companies were accustomed are fading out, while digitization-led business models are thriving. Mobile payment and digital currency practices are gaining momentum; cross-border E-commerce and digital trading are rising; B-side E-commerce is seeing fierce competition, deepening the penetration of digitization among traditional manufacturers and marketers. These trends have combined to create a new economic ecosystem. Meanwhile, rapid technological progress and constantly emerging business models are adding great uncertainty to this digitization-led revolution.

Zhou emphasized that the Boao Forum for Asia, as a high-level dialogue platform for political, academic and business leaders in Asia-Pacific, has been closely watching E-commerce development and has made much effort to promote international exchanges in E-commerce. He added that the next BFA Annual Conference will continue to explore the issues of E-commerce and provide industry insiders with opportunities to communicate with each other.

The summit was co-organized by the BFA, the Hangzhou Municipal Government and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce. Themed with “Fusion and Innovation: Creating the Ecosystem”, the summit had two forums—B-side E-commerce: “Is It an Enlightening Blue Ocean or a Risky Deep Sea” and “O2O: General Trend and Dilemma”.

Prominent figures who gave speeches at the opening ceremony included Zhao Yide, Member of the CPC Standing Committee of Zhejiang and Party Secretary of Hangzhou; Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General, BFA; Liang Liming, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province; Lv Zushan, Vice Chairman of Financial and Economic Committee, NPC and Head of the E-Commerce Law Drafting Team; Jin Jianhang, President of Alibaba Group; Hans-Paul Bürkner, Chairman of the Boston Consulting Group; and Li Guoqing, CEO and Co-founder of Dangdang.com. The summit convened about 1,000 foreign and domestic participants from political, academic, E-commerce and financial fields, including Xie Shuangcheng, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou; Mohammed Alhaji Abdu, Presidential Envoy of Nigeria; and Mark Mueller-Eberstein, CEO of Adgetec Corporation.
