LOU Qinjian, Secretary of CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, and HU Heping, Shaanxi Provincial Governor, met with the delegates of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Strategic Planning Workshop & Board of Directors Working Meeting in Xi'an on October 9, 2017, including Yasuo Fukuda, BFA Chairman and former Prime Minister of Japan; and ZENG Peiyan, BFA Vice Chairman and former Vice Premier of the State Council.

LOU Qinjian and HU Heping extended welcome to Yasuo Fukuda, Zeng Peiyan and their entourage. LOU Qinjian said that Shaanxi, as a vital birthplace of the Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation, boasts abundant energy resources, distinct geographical advantage, strong scientific and educational strength, and sound ecological environment. Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, has been serving as a portal of China's opening-up to the outside world since ancient times. China's Western Development strategy and the “Belt and Road” initiative implemented by the Chinese Government in recent years have brought Shaanxi to the forefront of westward opening-up and provide a rare opportunity for Shaanxi to go global. He hoped that the BFA delegates gain a better understanding of and support the development of Shaanxi, and offer advice on its economic development, opening-up, and environmental protection. We will do what we can to support the BFA event here and to make it successful.

Yasuo Fukuda spoke highly of the achievements made by Shaanxi province and said Shaanxi played an important role in the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative. He promised that BFA would leverage its influence to promote Shaanxi.

The meeting was also attended by other BFA Board members, including ZHOU Wenzhong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia; Goh Chok Tong, Singaporean Emeritus Senior Minister; Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister of France; Jennifer Mary Shipley, former Prime Minister of New Zealand; Surakiart Sathiratha, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand; and MAO Chaofeng, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and executive Vice Governor, as well as by QIAN Yin'an, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and Secretary General of the Provincial Party Committee; WEI Zengjun, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province.
