Secretary General LI Baodong Interviewed by China Global Television Network (CGTN)

On May 24, 2018, Secretary General LI Baodong had an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018, in which he made clear his views on issues as open economy, multilateralism, and China-Russia cooperation.

LI said that the countries worldwide should abandon the zero-sum mentality, encourage innovation and cooperation, jointly promote economic globalization that is more open, inclusive, balanced, and benefits everyone, and jointly build a community of shared future for humankind. At the Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) this year, Chinese President XI Jinping delivered an important keynote speech focused on China's reform and opening-up. The Boao Forum for Asia stands ready to contribute BFA wisdom on this issue, put forward BFA proposition, and promote the establishment of a new type of international relationship characterized with mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation.

LI pointed out that globalization has entered a new era. The biggest challenge lies in the fact that the global governance mechanism is unable to meet actual needs. The international community should strengthen the G20 mechanism, and adhere to the basic guidelines of the UN Charter, including sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.

LI stressed that both China and Russia are permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and have established a comprehensive strategic partnership, with highly complementary economies and facing the challenges of protectionism and unilateralism. The two countries should jointly maintain world peace and stability, safeguard the multilateral trade system in which the World Trade Organization plays a central role, promote the building of an open world economy, improve the global economic governance system, and enable emerging markets and developing countries to have a bigger say. LI also wished a complete success of the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
