Nik Gowing is main BBC News programme presenter / anchor on BBC World, the BBC’s international TV news channel broadcasting to a global audience of 265 million worldwide. He has been deeply involved with on-screen coverage of most of the world’s major news events in the past 27 years. Inter alia he announced Princess Diana’s death and was on air for six hours during the unfolding 11 September terror attacks in New York and Washington. He was a lead presenter from the Gulf for the Iraq War in 2003 and for coverage of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami catastrophe. Nik is a distinguished conference chair/moderator and speaker. He is also lecturer and published analyst on crisis management and the handling of real-time information in times of major emergencies. He has an international portfolio of commitments that draw on his extensive experience over almost three decades in diplomacy, defence and international security. He was head-hunted by the BBC from ITN, where he was award-winning Diplomatic Editor for Channel 4 News and for 18 years covered most of the world’s major news events. He was a member of the council of the Royal Institute for International Affairs for six years until 2004. He is also a vice chair and independent governor of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy,  a member of the Executive Council of the Royal United Services Institute, a governor of the Ditchley Foundation and a member of the academic council of the Wilton Park conference centre.
