Boao Forum for Asia

Economist Roundtable 2019

I. About Boao Forum for Asia

Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) was inaugurated in Boao, Hainan Province, China by 29 Asian-Pacific countries including China and Mongolia at 2001. The BFA is dedicated to promoting Asian countries to achieve common development through further integration of regional economy. Each spring, the BFA holds its Annual Conference in Boao, bringing together senior government officials, corporate leaders and insightful scholars and experts from Asia and other parts of the world for an intensive brainstorming on the most pressing issues of the world and emerging economies in Asia. Other than the flagship event – BFA Annual Conferences, BFA also holds overseas conferences, forums and symposiums in collaboration with its partners throughout the year.

In April 2018, BFA elected the new Board of Directors. Dr. BAN Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations, was elected as Chairman of the Board and Mr. ZHOU Xiaochuan, former Governor of People’s Bank of China, was elected as Vice Chairman. Mr. LI Baodong, former vice foreign minister of China was elected Secretary-General.

II. About the BFA Economist Roundtable

In 2020, the Boao Forum for Asia will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. The Roundtable officially kicks off intellectual preparations for the BFA Annual Conference 2020. During the past 2 decades, the Forum has made valuable contributions to Asian economic integration and sustainable global development. Today, the world economy is plagued by downward pressures, increasing uncertainties and growing challenges to globalization, free trade and multilateralism. The Boao Forum for Asia, while celebrating its 20th Anniversary, needs to make greater contributions to building Asian consensus and promoting joint efforts by bringing together the best minds of Asia and emerging markets to think, debate and act on the way forward.

The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Economist Roundtable 2019 will take stock of the challenges and opportunities faced by the global economic, Asia and emerging markets, and come up with innovative and feasible policy solutions. As the first of its kind for the Boao Forum, the Roundtable will bring together approximately 100 representatives from 29 BFA Initial Countries, think tanks, BFA members/partners and media leaders for a half-day brainstorming, which includes 5 roundtables, a full session and a BFA thank-you dinner.
